I decided to become a pathologist because I love the challenge of “solving the puzzle” – figuring out the source of the disease. The field of pathology offers daily challenges, and I really enjoy that. I like being able to obtain and interpret a Cytology specimen and give immediate answers to physicians so they can help their patients as quickly as possible. I also really like being a part of the “team” at Clinical Laboratory. We have expertise in a wide variety of areas. No one can be an expert in every area of pathology, so it’s important to consult with peers and take advantage of their experience. We draw from each other’s ideas, training and expertise to obtain a correct and complete diagnosis for the patient.
I received my medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine and performed my residency in pathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. My cytology fellowship training took place at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. I came to Rapid City because my husband and I wanted to raise our family in a smaller city. The crime rate is low and the quality of life is super. Rapid City has a very strong sense of community, and I really like the positive things that brings to my family. The Black Hills are gorgeous and when I do get time off, I enjoy horseback riding in the hills with family and friends.
